Why do a DBS?

The Discipleship Bible School (DBS) is a chance to dive into the most exciting book on the planet: The Bible! Within its pages is a mix of sensational true stories, fascinating history, interesting characters, powerful teaching, and the word of the Lord of the Universe Himself.

During this 12-week introduction to the Bible, students are given an overview of “God’s story” and will discover the purposes of God throughout. You will read the entire Bible from cover to cover, observe the chronology of biblical events, place each book in its historical context, understand the harmony between the books, recognize the different genres of literature, and consider the author’s original intent. You will learn the foundational truths of Christianity by going directly to the source.

Daily lectures will be on topics relevant to the books of the Bible currently being read. For example – you might hear about Worldview and Origins as you read Genesis, Exodus, and Job. You may study Leadership and Worship by observing the life of David in 1 & 2 Samuel, Chronicles, and the Psalms. Or while reading about Paul’s missionary journeys in Acts, you might study Missions and the Cost of the Call. Each book is bursting with insights to be discovered!

But you won’t be alone! Together in a small group with other students you will read through a part of the Bible each day. There will be room to talk, discuss and answer all the different topics and questions we come across.

Why Fiji?

We believe and have experienced that God transforms hearts through his word. Our heart is that this will happen all across the nation of Fiji. We want to equip you to be able to share God’s Story to anyone. Throughout the course you will not only get a better understanding of the Bible, but also learn how to teach it. We will equip you with tools such as learning significant bible stories off by heart, to be able to share them anywhere even if you don’t have a Bible. For example, when you sit together with locals on one of the many remote islands here in Fiji. You will be able to put these skills into practice by joining our voluntary outreach after the school. We are working hand in hand with the ministries YWAM BELT (https://www.ywambelt.org/) and Yachtsforlife (https://www.yachtsforlife.org/) to reach every single island in Fiji.

Are you ready to get lost in his word and see your heart be transformed as God speaks to you?

School Leaders

Viliame Namua:

I am Viliame Namua and it’s been a privilege to be part of this Bible training here in Fiji and the Pacific. In 2007, I did my DTS in Samoa with Ywam Samoa. Then served as a staff with Ywam Samoa. Also working with communities in Samoa and some other Pacific islands. In 2016, I did my DBS in Samoa, and throughout the school the word of God became more and more in my heart, it really gave more passion for God’s word. My heart is to see young people trained and equipped with the word of God by studying the Bible.

Jonathan Meissner:

I am Jonathan Meissner (Jonny). I am 21 years old and originally from Germany. In January 2020 I did my DTS with YWAM Queenstown. Unfortunately, because of COVID 19 I didn’t get to go on Outreach to Fiji. But instead, God opened another door for me. I got to do my DBS in Queenstown. Throughout this school I started to develop a hunger for the Word and discipleship. I got to experience God transforming me through the word and am now passionate to see even greater transformation happen. During this time God clearly called me to Fiji and gave me a heart for the people here. Here I am involved in Bible Training and outreaches to the remote Island communities.
